Built on Real Experience, Not Theory
We started jamirhalja in 2019 because too many Australians were getting financial advice that sounded impressive but didn't translate to actual results. Five years later, we've helped over 1,200 people build practical money skills that stick.
How We Got Here
What began as weekend workshops in a Wollongong community centre has grown into something we're genuinely proud of. Here's the short version of our story.
The Beginning
Started with 12 people in a borrowed room, teaching budgeting basics. Everyone brought coffee in thermoses. The whiteboard kept falling over, but people actually showed up week after week.
Going Digital
Moved online during lockdown. Turned out people from regional areas had been wanting this kind of straightforward financial education for years. Our first virtual cohort had 87 participants.
Curriculum Expansion
Added modules on superannuation and investment basics after countless requests. Partnered with three local financial advisors to make sure we were teaching current, accurate information.
Community Growth
Reached 1,000 total learners. Created peer discussion groups where people could share what actually worked for them. Turns out the best tips often come from others in similar situations.
Looking Forward
Planning expanded workshops for autumn 2025, including family financial planning sessions. Still keeping class sizes small enough that everyone gets individual attention.
What Participants Actually Achieve
We track outcomes because vague promises don't help anyone. These numbers represent real people who put in the work over six to twelve months.
Gradual Progress, Lasting Results
Most participants see their first real improvements around month three. That's when budgeting stops feeling restrictive and starts feeling like a tool you control. By month six, saving becomes automatic rather than something you force yourself to do.
Early Wins That Build Momentum
Financial literacy isn't about instant wealth. It's about making better decisions week after week until those decisions become second nature.
- Understanding where money actually goes in the first 30 days
- Setting up automated savings that don't derail your daily life
- Learning to spot the difference between necessary and optional expenses
- Building confidence to review and adjust financial plans regularly
- Creating realistic timelines for larger financial goals
People often tell us the biggest shift happens when they stop feeling guilty about money and start feeling capable instead. That usually takes about four months of consistent practice.
Petra Lindqvist
Education DirectorI spent eight years in banking before starting jamirhalja, and the thing that frustrated me most was seeing people receive advice they couldn't actually use. We built these programs around practical steps that work for real budgets and real lives. When someone emails to say they finally understand their super statement, that's why we do this.
